Detailing that changes the paint
A valet cleans the car. Detailing corrects it — machine polishing out the swirls and scratches that have built up, then locking the finish in behind a coating. This is where a good car starts looking better than it did new.
Taking the swirls out
Those fine circular scratches you only see in direct sun are swirl marks, and almost every car picks them up from being washed badly. Machine polishing removes a microscopic layer of clear coat to level them out. Done properly it transforms a car. Done carelessly it burns through the paint, which is why it needs measuring, not guessing.

Two levels
- Gloss enhancement — a single-stage machine polish. Lifts most of the light swirling, deepens the colour and gets a big improvement in a day. The right call for most daily-driven cars.
- Paint correction — multi-stage compounding and refining to remove deeper defects. Slower, more thorough, and priced per car once Jay has seen the paint.
Either way, Jay checks paint depth, does a test panel first, and shows you the difference under a light before carrying on across the car.
Protection that lasts years, not weeks
Wax lasts a couple of months. A ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and stays there — a hard, slick, hydrophobic layer that shrugs off water, road salt, bird lime and tree sap, and makes every wash after it quicker and safer.
What you actually get
- Gloss that stays. The car keeps the just-polished look instead of dulling off after a month.
- Water runs off. Rain beads and sheets away, taking most of the dirt with it.
- Easier washing. Dirt struggles to key onto the surface, so washing puts less stress on the paint.
- Chemical resistance. Far more forgiving of bird mess and sap if you catch them reasonably quickly.
Coatings go on after correction, never instead of it — sealing swirls under a coating just preserves them. Expect a full day or more, and the car needs to stay dry while it cures.

How a detail runs
Assess
Photos first, then an in-person look at the paint in good light. Jay measures depth and tells you what is realistically achievable.
Decontaminate
Full safe wash, iron fallout removal and a clay treatment so the paint is genuinely clean before anything touches it.
Correct
Test panel, then machine polishing across the car — compounding and refining to the level you have agreed.
Protect
Panel wipe, then wax, sealant or ceramic coating. Glass, wheels and trim finished to match.

Dealership standard, no dealership markup
Jay has prepped cars to handover standard for a main Land Rover dealer, where the car has to be perfect before a customer sees it. That is the standard he brings to a driveway in Orpington — for a fraction of what a dealer detail costs.

Common questions
Will polishing remove every scratch?
No, and anyone promising that is guessing. If you can catch a scratch with a fingernail it is through the clear coat and polishing will improve it rather than erase it. Jay will tell you which is which before starting.
Is machine polishing safe on my paint?
Yes, when it is measured. Paint depth is checked across the car, a test panel is done first, and the least aggressive combination that does the job is the one used. Soft Japanese paint and hard German paint want completely different approaches.
Can you detail my car outside at home?
Yes — Jay is fully mobile and brings his own water and power. For coating work he needs somewhere the car can stay dry while it cures, so a garage or covered driveway helps. Weather is checked before booking.
How long does a detail take?
A gloss enhancement is usually a full day. Multi-stage correction with a ceramic coating can run over two or more days depending on the car's condition and size.
How do I look after a coated car?
Maintenance washes only — no automatic car washes, no washing-up liquid, no dirty sponges. The maintenance plan exists so the coating gets looked after properly.
Do you offer paint protection film?
To confirm Whether PPF is something Jay offers, or something he refers on.
